I am trained in a person centered approach to counselling, meaning that I will naturally respect the individualism each person brings. I will work with them in an understanding, non-judgmental way whatever their circumstances. I work at their pace and will never tell them what to do.
I adhere to the British Association for Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP) code of ethics where confidentiality and professionalism combine to offer a quality service.
I use Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, (CBT), where necessary, to facilitate the desired changes those that come for therapy want to make. I can offer each person a tailor made therapy that will ensure you live the life you deserve. A happier, more fulfilled life, and to be the person you want to be, with the ability, knowledge and understanding that can help you to cope with life’s difficult situations, whatever they may be.
I do not pretend to have all the answers or to have a magic wand to make your troubles disappear, but I can offer you the support and skills to work through your issues more effectively. I offer a commitment to the therapy sessions and there may be some work involved on your part too, but this is essential if the desired changes are to be effective.
'Julia worked as a counsellor in our GP surgery for 2 years. During this time she was friendly, professional and confidential. Our patients benefitted greatly from her skills and were happy to be referred to her.'

Anon – Male aged 27
‘Very interesting as well as helpful. Made to feel at home an open up. Recommended.’
Anon – Male aged 23
‘I am not the most talkative person, but you have been excellent at getting me to open up. I feel a lot more confident every day using the ‘tools’ you have given me. Thank you very much.’
Anon – Male aged 27
‘Julia is a real help and is needed by many. She has a person centred approach and gives you the ‘tools’ to deal with things rather than trying to ‘fix you’ straight away. She gives you some theory behind the tools and this really helps. Other counsellors I have been to have been about form filling and discharge you too soon, with Julia it is about me, helping me to cope and there is no time limit which is nice to know. Julia is a real asset to the surgery for people who need her help.’
Susan. B. Aged 23
‘The sessions have helped me enormously and left me with a feeling of calmness and another ‘hurdle’ jumped.
Anon – Female aged 64
‘I really thought counselling was very much an airy fairy process – very American. However, having no preconceptions, I gave it a try and it is the best thing I have ever done. I feel better than I have done for years – if not ever. Still a long way to go to changed my ingrained behaviours but the ‘tools’ I have been given are helping, and will continue to help.’
Anon – Male aged 41
‘Although I was sceptical at the start, I have found, quicker than I anticipated, how much the counselling has helped me and helped me to understand ‘me’ better. I felt lost at the start, I don’t feel that now, thank you!’
Anon – Female aged 40
‘I spent many years of my life haunted by events from my childhood and events from adult life and after my counselling sessions with Julia I finally feel free from them. The memories are sad but no longer consume me. I also have a better understanding of myself and how I behave and therefore when certain things happen, I look at them in a different way and react differently (not 100% of the time.... but am getting there) I cannot praise Julia enough for her patience, understanding and care and would definitely recommend her counselling skills to help others.'
